Horibata Lab

Research

The Horibata Lab (2021-present) is driven by questions concerning how cells regulate themselves to move and shape themselves in order to exert specialized biological processes. We are also interested in understanding how disruption of these highly ordered processes can result in human diseases, such as cancer. We utilize state-of-the-art next-generation sequencing and mass spectrometry, cell biology, drug discovery, and machine learning to design an effective personalized treatment with minimal side effects associated with treatment.

Tubulin biology and microtubule bundling
  • Identification of the regulators of microtubule-associated proteins.
  • Determine the biological functions of microtubule bundling.
  • Utilization of single-molecule imaging to study biological functions.
Genomics and Precision Oncology
  • Characterization of tumor landscape.
  • Identification of refractory gene signatures.
  • Identification of effective drug treatments.

Mentoring and Community Outreach

Aside from research, the Horibata Lab is passionate about mentoring and community outreach. We provide research training and professional development for aspiring scientists, and we provide educational STEM activities for K-12 students.
